Growing Peony's

Please can anyone give me some good advice on how to grow and look after Peony's. I have an established one that I cut down each autumn, feed some muck and then stake as the plant grows.

Just invested in 2 new plants from the garden centre and have planted then with plenty of organic compost and some cow's muck.

What should I be doing to get the best out of these beauties ?

Are they tree or herbaceous Peonys?

  • They are herbaceous type.

Don't plant too deep, let the leaves die down naturally. I stake mine as the flowers can flop. I sprinkle bonemeal once they start shooting. Might give them a general purpose feed tomorrow as flower buds are forming.

  • Thank you, I'll certainly take the advice on-board.
