I used to use a spade but it isn't a clean cut and always turns into a big job so looking for alternatives...

Ideas wold be appreciated.

Yes a half moon lawn edger is what you need. I have wasted lots of money on various lawn edging materials but a tiny ditch works best. Cut straight down on the lawn side with the half moon spade and 45 degree on the border side. That gives a crisp edge and stops the grass invading the border.

  • Fab thanks, blairs, I was tempted by the other gadget but it was so expensive I thought I'd ask on here.

  • Hello - ive only ever used long handled edging shears. Is the half moon lawn edged better?

Yes gardeninglily - they are sharp and give straight lines.

You should only need to use a half moon edger once a season - otherwise you will keep cutting the grass away. Once the edges have been cut at the beg. of the season using the half moon, use a long handled edging shears after every cut  of the grass to clip the edge. Or if you are lazy like me, every second cut.

  • Thanks thats helpful...

  • My lawn areas have got smaller and smaller and birders bigger and bigger over the years - they'll be non-existent if I buy a half moon image so.... already on my tool wish list for this season are fiskar secateurs and a half moon edger.
