Garden ponds

We have a small garden pond 3x 4 m and 60 cms deep, it has a healthy Eco system, fish, frogs ,toads, dragonflies etc..but it is really silting up now after 12 years existence, Should we remove some silt and if so, how, bearing in mind that we do not own a pump?

thanks for your help.

You can remove some silt, it's messy but if it's that bad then do so. As long as you leave the removed material at the side of the pond for a few days to let any wildlife get back into the pond it will soon settle down and get on with it. There's no easy way to remove the silt, waders or wellie's and get on with it.

Thank you all. It is really what I know deep down , and yes we have waders and will get on with it....albeit, gently...
