I have, I reckon, over 100 different varieties of hostas, and many hundred specimens, most in ground , many in pots. I've never used copper tape / rings and I haven't had much damage.

Encourage blackbirds / thrushes and hedgehogs .

Funny you should say this Hostafan 1 because I am just in the middle of making a wildlife pond with a sloping beach type effort - hoping to encourage more frogs and birds to the garden. Maybe I could put some hostas around the edge of the pond and not keep them all in pots as at present.

encourage the predators and live with a bit of damage to your Hostas. The more wildlife, the less damage.

We have lots of birds, hedgehogs, frogs and toads - and we don't suffer too badly from slug damage - however copper strips around the pots would be a simple additional safeguard, if they work image  I may will get some and see what happens image

I have some old copper pipe that I polish up and put around ones in the garden, it does help but the devils do tunnel under it.

The copper tape is sold in shops like Wilko, last year I think it was a quid a role.

Never been posh enough to buy the proper tape, when i had my allotments i used to use copper pan scourers opened up and slipped onto pots, they seemed to work well for me, i think the combination of the rough texture and copper worked image
