I have some bareroot hosta and geraniums that have been in pots in the greenhouse and are growing strong for 3 weeks now. Are they able to be planted out anytime soon. Also 2 potted ferns are they able to go out

Hostas are hardy and can be left planted outside in the winter, but as those have been in it would be best to harden them off first and give them some slug protection.

By geraniums, do you mean Pelargoniums or hardy geraniums? It's too soon to put Pelargoniums out, not frost hardy, but hardy geraniums are hardy so harden them off and plant them.

They'll all be fine outside as long as you harden them off first image

Ae they big enough to plant in a bed or will they need to be potted on to grow a bit more sturdy so they don't get lost?

  • Hi Verdun,

I bought aquiligas and saxifrage on Saturday and was told they were in an unheated polytunnel before going on sale and that they should be fine to go straight into the the garden.

What do you think? Many thanks.
