Bougainvillea
I bought some sticks labelled Bougainvillea at the flower market in Amsterdam last week. They had a piece of paper wrapped round which I thought would be growing instructions, but wasn't! They are about 25cm long, sealed at the ends with wax, one end red, the other black or green. I think I probably need to cut them into pieces and plant, but I don't know which end is which. I can't find any help on the Internet.
Any suggestions please?

How long are the sticks? If they are between a foot and two foot, I would't cut them smaller. The wax will be there to stop water loss and infection from the cut ends. If i had to guess, I'd say that the green end goes in the ground, but I'm not Dutch and they may do it the "wrong" way round.

They are 30cm (1 foot) long.
Not read it all but this might help.

Hi, I don't know anything about growing Bougainvilleas
, but I'm Dutch and in the picture I seem to see part of some sort of instruction on the bit of paper around the middle one.
I can see the word "gedurende", which means " during", so if you could unwrap that label and upload a picture of it, I may be able to translate whatever is on it for you.
With a bit of luck, we may at least find out which end of the sticks is the top and which is the botttom
.
The instructions are translated into English:
Cultural Directions
Water very moderately. Fertilise slightly during growth period. The Bougainvillea will keep its beauty in light and sunny places. Temperature between 10 and 30 degrees centigrade.
Hope2. Ahhh, I must have misunderstood you
. I thought you didn't have any instructions with the sticks. Did you manage to find out which end had to go into the soil? I hope you'll get them to grow
. Good luck
.
What I have reproduced above is all the instructions there were.
In the absence of any other instructions, I'd cut the wax off both ends and then plant some one way up and some the other and wait and see
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Did you check out the link above. I think that gives you the advice you need. Because of the direction of the writing on the label, my logic would be that the red part is the bottom.
Good luck
