Coriander
Just got a coriander plant from Tesco cos I'll need loads this week for meals. It occurs to me though - after I've used some/all of the leaves, could I plant it outside for the summer if I leave the roots undisturbed and just put it in a bigger pot?

CharleyD, it has never worked when I tried. It just flags and dies on me. Might be me though.
Great, thanks. That's what makes this forum invaluable - so much experience around which is often far better than txt books. Next job ... order some coriander seeds - and basil, forgot about basil. I have all the other main herbs already
Try the Calypso variety, as this responds well to 'cut and come again', whereas most varieties tend to run to seed. http://www.marshalls-seeds.co.uk/coriander-seeds-calypso-pid3167.html

I haven't tried but I did it with supermarket parsley and it was very successful.
The supermarket living herbs fizzle out on me when I transplant them, like there's a programmed obsolescence but I've only bought they are reduced at their sell by date. Coriander is easy to grow from seed, most varieties run to seed easily.
The slow growers I find the trickiest. Thyme gets a few sets of true leaves then it's dead.
