Do you use Keyes fluid for greenhouse cleaning as i do, in my video ( link above)?  Or is their better solutions out there?image

  • Personally i use a disinfectant called Rely+On Virkon. You should be able to pick some up online, it's a clinical laboratory disinfectant. One of the few that will kill Virus' as well as bacteria and fungus. It's the stuff they use to clean after noro virus outbreaks usually.

  • I used Citrox for cleaning inside my poly tunnel for the first time during the winter months. Bought it online. I was attracted to the product by the makers statement that it was:

"A powerful organic citrus extract disinfectant for cleaning greenhouses, pots, staging, tools, seed trays, bird feeders and bird baths. Does not harm plant material so may also be used to disinfect water for washing cuttings, bulbs and corms. Pleasant smelling, safe and effective. Based on extracts of citrus fruit, effective against a wide range of bacterial and fungal diseases."

Already I have had two plants attacked & lost to grey mould when the inside of the tunnel became a damp, wet atmosphere as early spring sun lifted the temperatures to the mid 30's (C) & I was late getting there to open the doors for ventilation.

However the Citrox certainly smelt nice & fresh when I applied it via a spray. I will know how well it has worked later this year.

North Durham I will be interested to know what you think of it, particularly as a cleaner for glass / plastic - I guess it doesn't kill moss / algae as it states "does not harm plant material".

  • Hi Simon

As a glass cleaner I would recommend the product. The glass in our greenhouse was very badly stained and looked like it hadn't been cleaned for years when we bought it. Algae was crusted across every pane where it overlaps its neighbour.

We used a paint scraper and Citrox to wash and wet the algae and the scraper took it off in one pass. Once the panes dried the glass was clear and stain free.

I sprayed the inside of the poly tunnel and then wiped over with a squeegee sponge. The sponge was green on each wipe so rinsed it in clean water and continued. No hint of algae stain now on the tunnel covering.

thanks for the info North Durham, sounds like it's a good product!image

I just saw that I put Keyes Fluid instead of Jeyes Fluid in my original post. Apologies if my typing caused any confusion for anybody.
