Conifers can take all the moisture and nutrition out of the soil so that few plants can grow near them. Some of them can also make the soil very acidic which doesn't suit many plants.

i have some conifers that hangover my wall from next doors garden and i put some pots under the over hang and the things never grew in the pots under the trees but grew else where

Are the pots getting sun and well watered and plants inside the pots well fed all spring and summer?

I watered them. It was sweet William I was trying to grow and pansies
I will take a photo tomorrow & put up on here maybe someo could suggest something to go there
