It looks as though it is healing ok - I'd be tempted to remove the tape but you can always put some new stuff on if it still looks weak. I'd probably put in a bit of cane in the pot on that side too and tie the damaged branch to it with a soft tie to prevent the wind breaking it. Good luck with it - Jap. acers can be a bit finicky when it comes to that sort of thing but it looks young and very healthy which gives it the best chance possible of a full recovery.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
It looks ok in that one for now, but it looks like the top might be narrower than the middle? If so, you'll have a hell of a job removing it in a couple of years when it's root-bound and might have to smash the pot to get it out so I'd be tempted to do it now. Be careful of not breaking that damaged branch if you do though - perhaps best to leave it for another year to let it fully heal?

ok i will leave it
one last questions, i bought some ericaceous granular plant food for my azalea. is it worth given the acer some?
They generally like a slightly acid soil conditions so it won't hurt to give it a small amount.
Is it normal for the new spring leaves to be droopy?
