Snail shells
Hi All
I have just finished reading an article from a garden designer that I haven't seen before and thought I would pass it on to you all.
What do you do with the spent/used snail shells??
If we have a year like last year with an invasion of snails and slugs then this tip might just help. Use the used snail shells as cane protection. Better/Prettier than the green rubber things sold in garden centers, and free!!
Hope this is useful. Good gardening.

Hi Greencab. Yes, I do that too! Saw it on a gardening programme where they were visiting a french garden, and they had done that on all the canes in the garden. I thought it looked really good.
Anyone any other ideas out there??
I gather them up and then crush them and add to the compost heap.
Hi Jimmy, there's plenty of stuff to put on the compost...why not add some interest instead??
Haha, I would use them as cane toppers but theres few things in my garden tall enough to need staking. Too damn windy!
I stick them on the fire pit and use the ash as fertilizer
My chickens quite like snail shells, but generally not the contents
I powder them and sprinkle the CaCO3 on the brassicaceae beds.
Break them up , put round the hostas to keep the snails off !!
Those are pretty fab Edd
I think that's the next project!!
