Holey Lauren: disease or pest?

image

Can anyone shed light on my holey Laurel please and what might be causing this?  Last year it got what appeared to be shot hole - brown patches turning into holes.  I cut off all the affected leaves (mainly new growth) and hoped for the best.  Its never gone away fully and now the entire plant is covered in either holes, and what appear to be eaten leaves.  Could I have two problems here and if so how might I treat them? Its a massive shrub covering the entire back fence of the garden, about 15 sqm. Thanks in advance image

    Hi!

I had a very similar problem myself last year and was searching everywhere for the answer! I didn't know whether to put pest control on the area or totally take out the roots to ensure the disease didn't spread any more.

Luckily, after hours of searching, I came to the conclusion to try pest control, although I didn't know for certain, I had a very good idea that it was pests hacking at my lovely shrub and I had my hopes on this being the case as I love this shrub.

I eventually used a product called Nemaslug and it worked a treat!

    Hope this helped!

Thank you I've been advised to use non-detergent soap to spray it so will probably start with that.  Its massive so I'm going to need a whole lot of squeezy power!

    Hi Lupitt,

I was also advised that. I tried it, but it seemed to make the plant look even worse!

The droplets from the spray made white speckles on the leaves and didn't seem to help the problem at all, if anything it made it worse!

Not too sure whether the spray bottle was too close or not but either way, It did not recover the problem. That works well when trying to get rid of small pests but by the look of your problem your probably looking for a larger culprit!

Take a look at nemaslug here, http://www.nemasysinfo.com/products/nemaslug/

If you find anything else what works, I would be really intrigued to know! Let me know how you get onimage
