It sounds like a bad batch, I would take a pic of the plants and ask for a refund. always worth tweeting complaints if you don't get any joy.... companies respond to social media pressure!
as nutcutlet said, Verve is the B&Q trade name and I think different compost products may come from different producers and therefore be of varying quality. It's remarkable the difference compost quality can make! I subscribe to Gardening Which who published a really interesting comparison of potting composts some time ago...same plants planted in same conditions, some were wilting, weedy things, others big, bushy and healthy! The verve multi-purpose is usually pretty good, so I'd return the batch and get a refund..... and maybe subscribe to Gardening Which!
This year I bought several big bags of Verve peat free compost as a soil improver and it has added some good fibre to our sandy soil.
The plants I have grown in it have done very well. I know this product was slammed for being of very poor quality some years ago but what I had this year has really helped my garden.
hi all I se the argument about verve MPC has reared it head again when someone remarked last time when I replied it still seems like we have a 50 x50 for and against like I said last time with mine and some others makes I mix some sharp sand in and a bit growmore not to over do it and my plants allways seem ok ( even other makes do also have bits in like m gro/ but I will still stick to what works for me Michael (and I don't work for B Q)
When you have a sandy soil like mine it needs fibre and the Verve MPC stuff has that. The garden compost out of my wooden bins is not always fine in texture but it seems to grow good plants.
I have not found any foriegn bodies in the stuff this year.
Totally out of context but it has just occured to me that if they had not been peat cutting in Lindow Moss up in Cheshire and other peat extraction sites they would not have found "Lindow man "Pete Moss" at these ritual bog burials and the extra insights into archological understanding would have been lost.
But I would rather they did not dig the peat at all.
Hi all, I use verve mpc every year and find it ok . I only ever had one bag in all the years of using which wasn't up to scratch. I think sometimes its just your luck if it is good or bad. I have tried the dearer brands and really never saw much of a difference. But I always put some feeding in when I'm potting up plants anyway.
