manure.. again
I have been given some farmyard manure that has gone through a 'processing' for liquid to be extracted for Slurry tank.
Farmer stated it was ready for use, but if - as he described - it comes from cowshed, and is channeled into the process, I am guessing it is 'fresh' - it is very wiffy still so I am guessing it needs to compost before use, what does people think.

Put it in a pile and leave it until this fall. If it's wiffy, it's not ready quite yet.
Thats what I thought! Thank you..
Work out the direction of the prevailing wind, usually from the West, and site the pile down wind (East) your neighbour will not mind !
Thank you Curmudgeon.. I collected it in bags, so should I not leave it in them?
Is it possible Curmudgeon knows your neighbours Maryn

I've got the chance of fresh horse manure off the field and was going to see if I could make a hot bed with it. Never done it before but it sounds like it might work so long as plant roots don't go down into it.
To be less frivolous I would keep it bagged and add it to kitchen green waste and grass cuttings . The bovine nure will act as an accelerator to the compost and by gradually mixing it in you will achieve a well balanced end product. Still need to turn the heap over several times
PS , Yes horse manure , lovely stuff , mix it all together i, it will heat up and start steaming which is a sure sign that good composting is taking place.
Heehee.. I did wonder Primrosecottage!!
Thank you very much for advice, much appreciated
