Possibly a daphne. D laureola maybe. Can you get a picture of the whole plant?
In the sticks near Peterborough
This is the only picture I have it was taken a couple of weeks ago. My father has been chopping it down - rather than digging it out so it does not look as it should. Definitely would be a big plant if allowed to grow. Going to look at pictures of your suggestions now. Thanks
