Newbie & need help with my tree
in Plants
Hey all, this is all new to me but I have a apple tree in my garden, never done much with it and could do with some help.
I have some pics of the fruit last year, I got a lot of rotten fruit and apples which look like they have been attacked. (This was also the case the other year)
I purchased some codling my moth traps last year (it hangs in the tree) but when i looked at the trap they didn't seem to be many bugs. Any help what I can do? Something to spray on?
I have attached some pics of the fruit from last year

Also what Apple tree is it please?

There's over 7 thousand varieties of apples grown in the world, so I wouldn't worry too much about what you have.
Split fruit can often be a sign of the tree getting too much water and then too little, the fruit expands and contracts and the skin ruptures. May also be apple canker

splits in the fruit was caused by too much water all at the same time, the fruit swelled quicker than the skin could stretch,
bitter pit (the spots) can be caused by nutrient deficiencies in the soil (in other words the tree needs a good feed)
the tree will also need a good prune as a good air flow can also reduce damage to the fruits - you should be able to throw a golf ball thru the tree without it hitting anything!
Thank you for your response much appreciated. Can anyone suggest what i can use to combat codling moths?
traps for the males and grease bands on the trees to stop the female (that can't fly) climbing into the tree
If you want to know the variety take an example to an Apple Day next September/October. They are held all over the country where apples are grown and there will be experts on hand.
