Raspberries cut back old growth?

Hello,

I've got some raspberry plants and there is new growth starting, but there is also a lot of old growth from last year. Would it cause any problems if i were to cut back the old stems now to leave the new growth only?

    Hi Teamleader image

Are these summer or autumn fruiting raspberries?

It should have been done in the Autumn but as you have new growth I would cut out the old stems to ground level and let the new stems forge ahead.  I presume these are summer fruiting varieties.

If they are summer fruiting, there should be some long and well-developed canes formed last year that will fruit this summer. image

  •  To be honest I'm not too sure. I know they fruited from about late May through to October and were chuffing lovely!! I'll cut back asap as it'll certainly tidy up the area as well. Thanks for your answers.
