my son brought me tulip bulbs from Amsterdam. should i plant now or store them?

Now there's a good question, the bulbs need a period of cold weather on them before they will flower that's why we plant them in the winter, they need to be stored in a dry cool place so they won't flower this year but if you store them they need to be kept cool.
I think if you don't plant them they'll die. They might need cold to flower but they need soil to live
In the sticks near Peterborough
so do i store them in dry compost or what ?
