Why have my rosemary cuttings died?

cloud8cloud8 Posts: 103

Last summer I put 4 rosemary cuttings in a plant pot and they've been fine all winter.  Last week I decided to pot them up individually as they had roots coming out the bottom of the pot.  Now all four have gone brown.  What did I do wrong?

If the Rosemary cuttings had their roots frozen in the pot they would not survive. I put my cutting in my greenhouse and I am happy to say that it did survive. Have you a porch or somewhere frost free to keep the cuttings another time? They will survive in the soil in a mild winter but it is a risk. Pots will always be vulnerable and I have lost cuttings leaving them outside.

Thanks, they looked ok all together, it was just once I'd separated them that it all went wrong.   I guess they could have frozen and moving them finished them off.  I'm getting a cold frame this year so will try again and keep them warmer as you advise.  Thanks.

Rosemary cuttings root in water. At this time of year they should root within a week or 2 and you will make up for your loss quickly.

Great thanks!  I'll give it a go.
