3 is maturing, I took some more photos but too blurred to post.
The top now resembles purple sprouting broccoli and I think it will flower yellow. the stems are purple and I think it might be Woad, Isatis tinctoria. I have no record of sowing it but record keeping is a bit lax
It's definitely not evening primrose Hestor, they're are numerous and still at rosette stage at the foot of this one. Sorry the latest pics were no good but imagine the tight green, with a hint of purple, heads of broccoli before they open yellow. You could almost pick these thinking they were broccoli if it wasn't for the lower leaves.
I haven't noticed the bees on this violet particularly Aliesh but maybe haven't looked at the right time.

Think third one is oenothera, probably the yellow one, biennis, though there are others that look similar. The white one 'Innocence' is very pretty.
Thanks Buttercup. I think 3 might be a wait and see. I have oenothera in number but the don't look like that and they're nowhere near flowering.
I appreciate all the suggestions.
I've only just got round to checking out Pere David and he'e a flexuosa hybrid. I don't think this is a flexuosa, not blue enough

Nut - isn't that the plant the Celts used to extract dye from and paint themselves?

What a lovely plant...good for bees?
The Viola odorata var. sulfurea is lovely, I saw a mass of them in a churchyard on Good Friday.
