'Blind' Daffodils

Last spring I planted some Daffs that I had forgotten about. They have come up this year and are all blind.

So what do I do??  Once they are blind will they ever flower again....should I pull them up and put them in pots to see next year or just bin them and start again - in Autumn this time!!image

Feed them is the answer. Give them a good dose of a low nitrogen food (Tomorite). Blindness is generally caused by hunger, so you need to build up the bulbs for  next year. Moving them will not really help.

  • Thanks Berghill, I did do a Google search but was a bit baffled with the answer.  I will tie the leaves and let them die down and feed them with some tomorite.  Thank you image

Don't tie the leaves OL as that interferes with their photosynthesis.  You need to let them grow completely naturally until they die down or they won't be able to do their job of building the bulb up for next year.  I know they can look untidy, but that's just how it is. image

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

If you tied the leaves last year then that is why they are blind this year. As Bob says, leave them well alone.

OL, As Bob and Berghill say, don't tie the leaves down.

You never see plants in nature tying themselves in knots, there's the clue. image
