Aubergine seedlings - leggy?

image

This is my first time growing aubergine - aubergine f1 pinstripe. These look very floppy and I'm not sure why. These were grown in these pots on the windowsill. I repotted them once since they were spindly so I buried them deeper this time. Do they look OK?

Any help grately received.

They do look a bit leggy, can you get more light on them? Mine seem to be doing well in a sunny porch during the day. I bring them in at night to keep them warm.image

Its SW facing so they should get a fair bit of sun. I will move them upstairs and see if that makes a difference. Thanks for the suggestion.

Try a sheet of white card or reflective foil behind them to reflect light - it often helps on windowsills.

    Good luck image

Yes... I've just been googling and others have suggested foil and and fan or 'brushing' them once and a while... although if I did that with these I think I would damage them!

    Thanks

You could put them outside during the day in a crate - or on a tray - wrapped in bubblewrap. Take advantage of the natural sunlight and warmth trapped by the bubblewrap. You only need to tent the bubblewrap with something to keep it clear of the seedlings.

Thanks. So you suggest to put the bubble wrap as a 'roof'? I can see that. I have been busy making a foil backrop and set up the fan. I will see how this goes and then try putting them outside during the day. Picture coming!

If you can angle the back so it is forward at the top a bit it will direct more of the light down on the plants. image

Astrudle, wrap up whatever it is - crate, tray - like a parcel. Just make sure you tent the bubblewrap somehow. I use a beer bottle in the middle of the crate as a tent pole. I do it with my tom seedlings when it's sunny outside but too cold for the seedlings uncovered. The bubblewrap traps a lot of warmth and lets in every ounce of precious sunlight.
