Supporting plants

can anyone advise me which plants are good to combine with others for stem support. I have some dahlias and I would prefer not to stake but use combination planting to provide the support they need.

I planted mine quite close to each other and they sort of held each other up. I only had to stake the ones which were planted by themselves. If pinched out they'll be more bushy and less likely to flop.

Never had to stake them and they have been between 2-4ft tall.

  • Mine are reasonably close but still seemed to flop quite easily.

  • Now that's an interesting idea, Pansyface!

  • Will also pinch out, CharlieBot ...

You'll get later flowers but more overall. My 2 poms poms had over 20 flowers each from late July til November.
