Scarifying and wormcasts?

I am about to scarify my lawn this weekend but I do have a few wormcasts. Is it still ok to proceed or am I going to encourage more casts? I seem to recall somebody mentioning 'too much' maintenance (I also scarified in the Autumn) might help cause the dreaded wormcast.   Any advise on a wormcast free lawn would be greatly appreciated!   Thankyou
