What are they potted in?  What's the temperature in the greenhouse?  Is the compost too wet?

  • compost, 6 to 7 degrees night time, watering from the roots so they are in a tray but there not sat in constant water

maybe they've just used up the nutrients in the compost?

Hostafan, that's what I was wondering, but Simon says he potted them up on Saturday - if the compost was fresh MPC or similar it should have plenty of nutrients in it (as long as it wasn't seed compost). image

It does sound a little cool at night - I think they like to be above 10C - but I'd have thought that lower temps would slow the growth rather than cause yellowing image

    Is Italophile around?

That's on the cool side. I'd consider either bringing them inside at night or, at least, wrapping them in bubble wrap overnight. How often are you watering, Simon? It's very easy to overwater at this stage. You can let the mix dry out.

You too. Flat out dealing with Italian builders at the moment ...image

Looks like you can't edit posts anymore. At least outside a certain time after posting. Bah. I'd add to my earlier post that temps for seedlings should certainly be into double figures.

  • Simon, some of my tomatoes and chillies are in a cold greenhouse similar to yours, and have been for the last fortnight without any problems.

I think your estimated temperatures are about right and the same as mine, as a cold greenhouse closed overnight will give about 5C protection above outside temperature, as well as protecting from wind chill and rain.

I agree with Dove that these kind of temperatures will slow growth rather than cause any other problems.

  • thanks folks   maybe over watering is the problem ,and the shock of the move to a cooler climate All now in the shed near the window drying out. fingers crossed.
