My acer has just started to spring New leaves, is it now time to feed it. If so what feed do I use?

I'd leave it a wee while yet as you might force some soft new leaves which might be damaged by frost later.
I live in the South of England and have a garden full of acers… some very large. I've never feed them and they do great year after year. Aim I just lucky?!
I have a few in containers, I always top up with new compost each year and use some general release fertiliser along with some bedding plants I put around the bottom at the end of May. They seem to respond well to a bit of general feed.
