Foreign plants
in Plants
I've just been reading about a climbing rose called 'Black Boy', a dark red, very strong climber, I understand. I Googled it, and find it's available - but only, as far as I can see, in Australia. Is there a firm in the UK which grows it, and if not, how can I get one? It's a long way for a wee plant to come and stay healthy, even airmail. Would I be able to import it at all, and would I have to pay customs duty on it?

I agree with Pansyface - roses developed for the Australian market are unlikely to do well in the UK. Etoile de Hollande is a lovely rose.
Another you might consider is Josephine Bruce - have a look here http://www.classicroses.co.uk/productindex.php?prodfinderformroseColour=red&prodfinderformroseScent=very-scented&type=rose&recsperpage=10&pagenum=2
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Thank you, Pansyface and Dovefromabove. You're probably right about the unsuitability of Black Boy for Scottish weather, even in Nairn which is warmer than most of Scotland - I hadn't considered that. My mother had a Josephine Bruce, which was lovely in reliably, constantly fine weather, but how much of that do we get? If it was rained on, even a little, its head drooped, never recovered and rotted - a very depressing rose. Maybe Black Boy is the same - I believe it's an old rose, so it may be in the same family. I'll have a look at Etoile de Hollande. Thank you again.
Would they be allowed to send a plant here ? By what I have had experienced they are not allowed to send a lot out regarding seeds ,is it same with plants ?
Just a thought
You could get it from Belgium, if that's any help. Daniel Schmitz Roses. Although it's marked as unavailable at the moment.
