pop up green house fell apart
Hello
I brought a plastic greenhouse from T&M in Feb, it looked great in its bag, but came without instructions or any advice on what conditions it can be used in. It was an utter nightmare to put up especially on my own, the legs kept coming apart as its made like those kiddies wands with the string through the middle. I taped the joints on the legs, secured the rope thingys and put buckets of bricks (no sharp edges) on the botton to weight it down. 6 weeks on the cover is shredded and two legs have come off. Ive had lots of this type of greenhouse in the past and would usually expect them at least to make it through the summer. T&M have given me my money back, so that isnt my issue. I really feel strongly that this product should not be for sale, it is not fit for the job...have i just got a bee in my bonnet or a valid point. has anyone else had the same problem, or did i get a duff one?

Bekkie - as I said on the other thread I think you should post a 1 star review on the website to flag up a product which clearly did not perform properly for you. I think there is another very poor review on there as well so people will at least be forewarned there could be an issue if they go ahead & buy the product.
I'm not sure how interested Trading Standards would be as the company have given you a full refund & the product is not actually dangerous - but you might want to look at the Citizen Advice web site where they explain what is meant by "Fit for Purpose" and "Satisfactory Quality".

I would say that an item which is advertised as a 'greenhouse' for use outdoors should be able to withstand normal elements of the Great British weather. If there was no requirement for you to put it in a very sheltered spot it should really have been at least as robust as a small tent.
I don't think you are making a fuss about nothing - £50 is not peanuts is it?
Go for it girl.
As you say £50 is a lot, just think how many plants you could get for that.
It was clearly unfit for the purpose it was sold for.

I got one of these very similar from Tesco. My other half worked there and got them for £1 but I found them to be really poor quality. In the end we took them apart and used them to hold leaf mould, made a pergola out of one and made shelving out of the other.
The plastic cover was used to hold soil when we dug the pond but it wasn't very strong. I wouldn't recommend these types at all for outdoor work. Or their potting benches.
I purchased a new cover for my 3mtr x 2mtr poly tunnel (that green nylon stuff) and it ripped near the top next to the zip within a week. As the tunnel was half full of young toms, chilli and assorted other plants I chose not to send it back but sewed it up, then re-anchored it into the trenches either side so that it wasn't so tight.
All is well so far but it didn't half flap around in the high winds we have experienced down here recently. When the time comes around for replacement, something more substantial will be chosen.
