Vine weevils - plastic

  • My experience is compost high in organics have the most vine weevils. By organics I mean peat or peat substitute. The more soil grit or gravel the less likely I get problems. The pot makes no difference other than plastic pots stay moist longer between watering.

I had 2 vine weevils in my alpine trough this year only noticed when one plant died and i checked the roots or lack of them the blighter was underneath the plant

  • Bet it was in the peaty compost from the original plant as bought. Many of the alpine people wash all plants that they buy to remove the peaty stuff and repot immediately. The plant will not suffer usually if done carefully and the plant sheltered for a time.

  • Hi Roydimage wish I only had 2 image I decided to put a potted hydrangea into the garden turned the pot out over barrow of new soil only to spy millions(I could be exaggerating image ) so have spent 20 mins trying to pick them all out onto the bird table, I've sprinkled a little seed on there as well but not a taker?? Where have my feathered friends gone don't they know I've set out posh nosh for their Easter treat image
