Living Willow

sam 7sam 7 Posts: 7

I have living willow dome structure at school that has not been maintained and is now a circle of very tall trees.   Can I make it back into a dome - if so how?  or is it better to start again, not sure if I could use the existing willow to create a new one.

Ill take a photo tomorrow and post it - thanks for replying.  I have been given the job of grounds maintenance and am a novice gardener.

Photo will be great, but you should be able to do something with it as willow can be cut right back and will grow again. image

chop it to about 6 inches off the ground and use the fresh new growth in the autumn to start forming the dome.

I am constantly finding overgrown willow structures that have been put into school grounds and then abandoned, schools don't realise how much work one takes to look after. image

Thanks.  Can I use any of the cuttings to fill up any holes around the edges.  Do you know of a good website that explains how to grow and maintain a living willow dome?

Yes, certainly. Just poke the cuttings in the ground where you want them to grow.
