In a similar vein, we have a mixed hawthorn and holly hedge at the bottom of our garden. It is about 15 feet high and we have trimmed the top and our side for the last thirty years. The hedge belonged to a house behind us but they have recently sold off part of their garden and a new house has been built immediately behind our garden. The new single, lady owner of the new house has told her 'gardener' that she wants the hedge higher to give her more privacy so that we and our neighbours cannot see her bedroom window. Any increase in height, and it would need to be at least three feet higher to achieve what she wants, would greatly increase the shadow of the hedge across our garden apart from making it far more difficult to trim. We would strongly resist any attempt to allow it to grow higher as I believe we have the law on our side apart from the fact that for the last thirty years we have maintained it at its current height without let or hindrance, or even thanks, from the previous owner. What do others think?
Perhaps you could let her know somehow that with the hedge at it's current height, no matter how you try, you've been unable to see into her bedroom window.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
I would think that no one is remotely interested in her bedroom. If it bother her perhaps a pair of closed curtains or slatted blind would be in order.

Isn't that what net curtains are for?
