Free Council Compost

  • Council compost is the perfect "Grow your worst nightmare weed kit". Some of the worst weeds imaginable: Japanese knotweed, Field horsetails, Ground elder, Creeping cinquefoil, Lesser cellandine, Atertemesia vulgaris (wormwood) to name but a few can survive hasty composting - and even thrive in "properly done" composting.

People throw all kinds of nasty stuff in their garden waste bins and councils seem to churn out compost as soon as it looks like compost, rather than doing it the proper way i.e. keeping terrible weeds or seeds away from a compost heap, as they don't have the resources to scrutinize the plant material they recycle. Everything goes in and what comes out and ends up in gardens is a lottery to say the least. I wouoldn't use it if they paid me £100s per bag to take it away image
