hardy plants for a newbie

My sister is wanting to plant stuff in her garden but is a newbie and has strong winds so im wondering what plants she could plant that would thrive? she wants to grow sweet peas but the winds would be a problem in guessing

You can get short sweet peas (Jet Set, ,Knee Hi 3ft) or dwarf ones at around 1ft/30cm which can trail over the ground or over the edge of a pot. Even the large ones can be allowed to scramble over a tree stump or bush, they usually withstand wind fairly well, it is generally the supports that give way!
Eleagnus ebbingei Limelight is lovely year round.
