  • now april - is it still too late for garlic?
  • I planted my garlic in Nov, when will it be ready and do you leave it to dry as you do onions.
  • my allotment, garlic planted October coming on fine.
  • Garlic needs between 24-36 weeks from planting to maturity. Harvest when leaf tip yellows, lifting carefully with a fork and drying and storing like onions. My garlic planted in october should be about ready I haven't lifted any yet but might see what it's like at the weekend. Grannyrunner I have checked my book and it says that you can plant garlic in late winter, early spring, and late autumn. Why don't you plant some you have nothing to loose but a few bulbs?
  • I think I have rust on my garlic leaves, does the whole plant need to be distroyed or can you still eat the bulb it i lift them now. Can anyone help.
  • I did all the right things and planted in October. They were well established by Christmas and shown steady growth through February and March but now they are all have rust. Is this because of water logging, and will it affect the bulbs which seem to be growing OK but have not yet begun to multiply?
  • I have harvested my garlic from my allotment and am sorry to say that it is quite disappointing. It showed steady growth throughout the season but unfortunately the bulbs are quite small. I wonder if this has anything to do with being supermarket bought garlic. Can anyone help or give any advice as to what kind of bulbs to buy for my next attempt in October.
  • rust on garlic leaves, any tips for action etc ? thanks
  • My mother in law suggeseted we use house Ash (fron our open fire) all over our Onions and garlic that we have just planted. I was a little worried i must admit, is this the correct thing to do?
  • I must add on our fire we burn newspaper, coal and logs.
