Flies on my new Acer leaf shoots. Should I spray?
Hi My acer is waking up after winter and is full of new leaf shoots. I've noticed the leaves, which are still not fully open yet, are cover with small greeny/black flies. I have tried removing by hand but seem to come back the next day. Should I spray the new leaves with something or just leave them? Thanks

Aphids and/or blackfly can reproduce alarmingly quickly. As a first step why not try spraying with weak soap solution every day until they have disappeared? Alternatively, if you don't mind using chemicals, you could use a systemic bug killer which should keep your tree free of the bugs for longer.
This fact sheet contains quite a lot of useful information.
