Seed Sowing
I have successfully sown seeds in the past, however, the free seeds from GW magazine Zinna I have trouble with. They are growing a stem then as soon as leaves appear they are eaten or whatever. The seeds are grown in individual trays with lids in a heated propagator ( 7 tray type). I have searched for the obvious slugs etc without any success, what am I missing ? Thanks.

are the rotting?
Hi royd63k - yes no problem there but come up grow first two leaves and then gone, sometimes no leaves just soft tops sounds like some insect but how they getting in ?
Is it zinna or zinia? If it is zinia, they are hardy growers, even from seed and simply casting them on the top of the soil, outside. ...lightly pat a thin layer of soil over the seeds and keep damp, not soaking-wet.
Hello royd63k, maybe try taking them out of the heated propagator and just try going them on the windowsill/greenhouse, it might be that they are too hot in there! Hope this helps you, let me know how you get on!
Thanks everyone for your advice. I will take out of propagator and see how I go. Will keep you advised.
