Temporary screening

Hi everyone We have a gap in our privet hedge in which we have just planted some new privet however until they grow a bit bigger we don't have any privacy from our neighbours. Does anyone have any suggestions about what we could use on a temporary basis while the privet grows? Cost wise please not too expensive, but hubby is pretty handy so not too worried about how much work is involved!! Thank you.

Can you post a photo as it's very difficult to assess the situation?

Without that, and guessing that you mean privacy from inside your house, my advice would be to plant something a bit nearer to you in the same direction as the gap as seen from the problem window.  If you plant something too near the gap, it may restrict the light to the new privet plants and they would take longer to grow.  Perhaps a piece of trellis or an obelisk with a clematis growing up it.  If you choose a Group 3 clematis like Hagley Hybrid and get one in a 3 litre pot, it will romp away and be 6ft high in a couple of months.  If you want instant, then maybe a large pot of bamboo (and I would keep it in the pot as many are invasive.)

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Hi, I am so sorry i have taken a picture but it will not attach (due to our old computer i think!). The privacy isn't just from the house it is in the garden too - basically both our neighbours and ourselves had sheds in the garden that ran beside each other but now we have both taken them down leaving a large gap in the boundary fence. We have planted new privet as i said but it is very small just about waist high and not thick at all. Leading up to the hedge we just have grass on either side so there is nothing screening the gardens from each other. I hope that helps to describe it better but if not then please ask me any questions that you would find helpful. Thank you.

    Hi image

Ive used that reed screening stuff as ive got a mixed hedge thats mainly hawthorn so is seethrough in winter, you need more than one layer though as the little gaps still allow you to see through quite easily. I havent put posts etc in as one day my OH will get round to making a fence....i hope! Ive found it easy enough to tie to the hedge image

Thank you the reed fencing looks like a great idea while the privet grows.

If you want to keep your private life, you should to interest wooden screen http://www.teak-art.pl/. It's good solution for gardens, and for flat also. I think it solve you problem.

That last response looks suspiciously like an advert to me.
