Thanks for indentifcation. If a remove the pentaglossis can it safely go in the compost or is it one for the incinerator?
Will take a photo when it flowers. Quite exciting to find out what we have. Afraid there may be many more photos when some of the bushes stop being brown and twiggy!

Foxgloves are easiest to dig up, then verbascum,. Pentaglossis roots go down a very long way

was fairly easy to dig up - this one was in the border rather than the large clump.
Found out yesterday the garden had been a wildlife garden (maintained) until they put it on the market.
on another note - whats this bush - curently flowering but want to learn how to care for it in future
Can't help with the weeds but the bush is a nice camellia with lots of flowers waiting to burst out.

Roots look OK for the pentaglossis. Big ones will have bigger roots
