Mahonia winter sun problems black spot

a1154a1154 Posts: 1,108

Hi my new batch of plants arrived including several mahonias. I noticed just one has quite extensive black spots on the leaves.  Is this a rust and I should remove infected leaves?  I think this would be all of them.  Should i keep it away from other plants?  As ive got several im OK with binning this one if its going to cause problems.

Can you remove the black spots with a finger or is it in the leaf itself?

It does sound like Mahonia Rust - use Rose Clear, which is a fungicide and widely available, to treat it.

So it could spread to other plants including roses i take it?

Yes it is the same fungus so could spread. It is treatable with that spray: to be safe spray all the nearby plants with the Rose Clear as well.
