Trees in Pots

  • The guys have been giving me advice on selecting fruit trees. I've just bought some fruit trees from OrnamentalTrees, and they have a lovely page of trees to grow in pots: http://www.ornamental-trees.co.uk/trees-to-grow-in-pots-c55  They say some of their fruit trees can be grown successfully in pots too, but it's not easy to work out which from their site, I'd Email and ask advice. We just bought some small fruit trees from them and they look good, and arrived in good condition.

Something I'd like is an orangery. I'm addicted to growing lemon pips and have some nice plants, but am running out of places to put them in the winter as they get bigger. Could you construct a glassed area in your yard for citrus plants?

I should mention that you're unlikely to get fruit from lemon plants grown from pips. If I was serious I'd build a place to house them in winter, and buy some decent plants. The ones I have though do look good image

  • Lovely! I discovered this year that cirtus fertiliser works very well, although it's probably something dead ordinary. My trees have big shiny leaves.  I also got a lot of caterpillars on them last year, after they went outside. I'll have to do something about that this year.
