Hellebore advice

Hi all, I found this beautiful hellebore in a border I was clearing. I replanted it a few weeks ago in a shady position taking as much undisturbed root as I could and adding some MP compost with added feed into the new hole.

It seems to have taken as lots of new shoots are emerging at the base (6 at least 2 cm tall now). A smaller plant I also moved doesn't seem to be sending any new shoots and perhaps won't make it.

What else do I need to do to help this plant? Should I cut off the large leaves as they are brown at the edges. all of the leaves seem to be brown at the edges how many should I cut off? Should I feed this plant at all?

I also found 2 more very small plants in the border I'm digging yesterday. I need to move them, Any tips e.g is the MP compost with added feed OK to use?

Cut all the old leaves off down to the ground. Give a mulch in the general area. Make sure it does not dry out this summer.

Small plants can go into multipurpose compost. Use deep plant pots.

  • I have some  hellebores  I haven't done anything at all to as they are not top of the list, in a huge new (to me) garden. They seem to be thriving very nicely in a sheltered shady spot against a wall, and under an acer.

so, just to re-cap ... cut off all old leaves, mushroom compost and granular fertiliser, keep an eye on watering.

Thanks all for your help image

  • I've got one exactly the same colour from work, garden centre image, my boss just told me to plant in the ground and water moderately and cut off leaves tht are dead, dieing, or diseased.
