  • I certainly think that Swifts are not all that plentiful this year in my area, which is not very encouraging. What does anyone else reckon?

We usually get swifts where I am in birmingham but this year we aint had any yet at all
  • Please keep an eye out, marc and everyone; it may just be a late year. And do put your records in to the people who need them.

non in addlestone either. we have had at least one family for years but not this year

  • Have a look at www.oum.ox.uk/visiting/swifts to see their diary for this year and other interesting stuff.

  • With the weather becoming more summery after the cold spring, it's still worth looking out for Swifts nesting - many will have started late. I've noticed more Swifts around, many of which may be young birds from previous seasons. But if you do see nesting activity please report it to your local Wildlife Trust or Ornithological Society - they will appreciate every record!

Sorry Joe your link doesn't work.

The swifts have been particularly noisy round the house the last three days. I wondered if the eggs had hatched. They mobbed me when I stood in the Velux window to watch them. Close enough to hear and feel them fly past
  • Sorry about the link, Welshonion; it worked when I first posted it, so it's a mystery to me! You're lucky to have such close encounters.

Old building; they were here before us. Ditto the bats.
