Front Garden Wall
in Plants
Hi all,
I have recently taken out some old dying hedges from my front garden, by the wall. I wish to plant some easy to manage plants/hedge in its place, but I don't have a clue. A few people have suggest Leylandii, is that a good option?
Advice or suggestions welcome.
Cheers

Eek not Leylandii, they get too big, try Laurel its much prettier and easy to manage.
It depends what you want. Another trimmed hedge or a mix of plants.
How much space is there?
In the sticks near Peterborough
You could go for a mixed hedge that will be attractive to wildlife as well as good to look at. Things such as hawthorn, hornbeam, hazel, beech, field maple. Beech and hornbeam both look alike and keep their brown leaves over winter until the new growth starts in spring. Hawthorn is good if you need something thorny. Rosa rugosa can be used as hedging but needs space to expand sideways.
Lonicera nitida is good if you want a hedge that can be easily clipped and comes in green and gold forms.
The nicest evergreen hedge that I have seen was Leylandii. They key is to prune it regularly.
Beech looks classy.
Train some fruit, apples, plums, apricots if its south facing... looks great, tastes great..
