Nematodes

Hello, I know this topic has been discussed before, but cannot see how I can link up with the others...so apologies if I'm asking something already asked.

I have a standard green high dome like compost bin with a lid. Which produces THE most amazing compost and I love and just addicted to using my own compost that I produced.

However, on the  weekend, whilst extracting some fab compost, I THINK I spotted a vine weevil...and my heart sank. It is probably me, emptying old compost from pots into it ~ so self inflicted.

So, can I use Nemasys Vine Weevil Killer Nematodes in my compost bin? Has anyone tried it... what's your option...I dug around and found what I think were about 3-4 weevils, which I squashed...but what if my whole bin is full of them? Can they survive in there....if I use Nemasys, will they destroy, say all the wonderful worms etc in there too?

Thanks you for reading and your help, so very much appreciated.

Cheers,
Sha

Pick them out and feed them to a robin. They wont harm the compost.

  • excellent news! Thanks so much Fidgetbones

The grubs can only survive if there is food for them in the compost and as they only eat roots, then there should be nothing for them to eat. They are really only a big problem in pots where they are forced to go round and round dining on the roots. Out in the garden they tend to eat in a straight line so they do not completely destroy a plant.

  • thanks again everyone ~ much valued info
