Advice on planting agapanthus

sionedsioned Posts: 6

Hello! On the weekend I bought a packet of bare root agapanthus which are beginning to show signs of life. They all have 2 inch long green shoots. How should I plant them in pots? Should I plant them deeply so the shoots cannot be seen or nearer the surface with the shoots protruding? Many thanks, Sioned

  • Hi, i would give them plenty of room so good size pots and cover them just above the shoots and water well.

Hope this is of help. Im sure others will have ideas. But more advice the better then you can choose. image

Yes, they don't like lots of room or they make lots of leaves and no flowers. They like sunshine.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Yep cram the roots together as they don't like to much space. If you are to use a big pot then buy more roots. The agapanthus i have in big pots are in sets of 5 roots and have tumbling teds in the same pot.

Just to warn you that you may not get flowers this year (but you may know that already!). I planted some bare roots two years ago & am yet to get flowers. Hopefully this year!
