Is soil contaminated?
Hi, I have dug up a Ceanothus tree today that was dead and noticed that the soil has lots of white , ash looking particals in it. Is this disease ? am I ok to replant there ? Appreciate any advise ?

It's most likely to be one of many types of fungus that feed on the decaying roots of dead plants. I wouldn't be worried about planting there although I'd probably replenish the soil with some well-rotted manure and/or leafmould and some Fish, Blood and Bone.
If planting another shrub in that area it would be helpful to use a micorrhizal root powder.
