Hi I have several ferns do you cut them back in the spring or just leave them, as they look tatty and old now....Thanks

There are different varieties of ferns. I have an evergreen one which grows over my little pond so I hard prune it. It soon grows back as I imagine most ferns would. not sure about the other varieties though.
As said, remove all the dead fronds. On evergreen ones the rule is remove an old leaf for each new frond.
