Camellia Debbie

"Debbie" is just about to bloom, and What To Do Now advises " Feed rhodos, azaleas and camellias. Does this apply only to later blooming varieties? I thought plants should be fed before or after flowering. HELP,

  • Many thanks, Verdun! Granular feed it will be. It is a young specimen  growing in a pot

But I'll try laying on a mulch.

  • I am gardening in a new garden.  Soil has tested alkaline.  Although the gardens near me are growing camellias I think that they will not do well on alkaline soil.  I have been given two camellias as presents so think they may be better in pots.or shall I try planting them and feeding with specific fertiliser.  There is already a large camillia in the garden which is flowering but the leaves are yellowing.  Any advice would be helpful.

  • many thanks Verdun, will try Epsom salts!!   Perhaps I will try one in the soil and one in a pot.

  • Good luck with the camellia in a pot. The success rate is high. Just one little piece of advice from a non-expert. NEVER let the compost dry out. Keep it lightly moist at all times.
