climbing rose

Hi guysimage what a lovely afternoon it is here, I hope yours is the same

.I have a climbing rose penny lane I need to tidy it up as I am revamping the bed against the front of the house. It's 2years old and I hadn't grown a climber before so up till now have just put hoops of bamboo around it for support when the blooms got heavyimage how hard can I prune it back and if I do will I lose alot of flowers this year? It looks pretty healthy and has loads of stems but only 3thick ones and lots of new leaves coming. I would like to tie it up to a proper trellis.

Basically with climbers, you leave the long healthy looking ones coming from the bottom of the plant. You can cut the ends off. Cut out the old woody stems and all the dead growth (but yours shouldn't have any yet, too young) and the thin spindly growth, then prune all the side shoots coming off them to 2 or 3 buds. This pic is the general idea.

It would be good to tie it to a proper trellis, if you can train the stems sideways you get more flowers.
