Planters against a fence

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone could offer some advice.

I'm looking to have planters built along my fence to fill with golden bamboo.

Now, I was thinking 4 sided planters,  slightly off the ground and off the fence, to help with drainage and avoid the bamboo getting anywhere it shouldn't..

Had someone today to price it up and he was keen to have it more as a raised bed with just wood to the front and bamboo barrier to contain the bamboo. The existing fence has 2 concrete gravel boards and he seemed to think it would be OK to pack the soil against this so long as it wasn't touching the wood..

Am I right in thinking this may cause problems further down the line? My fencing backs on to 8 different properties, the last thing I want is to do anything that may cause it to fall down. Also I'm not 100% convinced bamboo barrier is always effective  in the long term.

If anyone could offer insight, it would be much appreciated!
